Dumfries and Galloway College and Queen of the South to Offer New Course

Dumfries and Galloway College has teamed up with Scottish Championship football club Queen of the South (QoS) up to announce a new course.

The Sports and Recreation (QoS FC) Skills For Work (SFW) Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) will see students gain real world experience of how a football club works as well as receiving taught classes at its Dumfries campus.

Running for 12 weeks between 14 March and 13 June 2022, the exciting new programme will also provide students with the opportunity to take part in match day activities as well as working with the team’s training, local community activities, and breakfast club.

Students will leave the course with a National 5 qualification and will be equipped with the skills and unique experience required to build a career in the sports industry or progress into further study.

Sports and Recreation (QoS FC) SFW SCQF has twelve places available and applicants will be entered into an interview process to determine admission.

A PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check will also be required for entry.

Those interested are encouraged to contact Dumfries and Galloway College where staff will be happy to answer questions and provide information.

Dumfries and Galloway College thanks Queen of the South F.C. for making this exciting opportunity available and looks forward to working with them further in the future.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“I am delighted that our college has added this exciting new course to our curriculum and I send my personal thanks to our partners at Queen of the South for making it possible. “Working with our valued partners across the South of Scotland has been key to our success at Dumfries and Galloway College and we’re proud to continue building these important relationships. “I would encourage anyone who is interested in taking advantage of this unique opportunity to get in touch with us to find out more.”

Dan Armstrong Said:

' It is great to have a further partnership with the college and is hopefully a further strand to what we as a football club can offer to our community. This gives young people the opportunity to challenge themselves academically as well as practically. We would like to thank the college for allowing a new innovative project to take place and we look forward to welcoming the students to Palmerston to enhance their education with us.'
