It was a rare occasion as we made the trip to Alloa, as the manager was able to field the same starting eleven for a second week, naming the same side that started against Falkirk.
The home side made a decent start to the game and had a couple of early chances. A mix up in the visiting defence handed them their first after four minutes, when Kyle McClelland and Cammy Logan left it to each other and as the ball was played into the danger area, Max Kilsby headed back into the path of Steven Buchanan, but Harry Stone reacted quickly to make the save.
Stefan Scougall also had a half chance before Queens opened the scoring. Josh Todd did well to control to play in Lee Connelly, Joel Mumbongo held the line to receive the pass and stepped forward to slot a right foot shot past PJ Morrison.
With their tails up, Harry Cochrane dug in to win the ball and then found Logan at the edge of the box but as he tried to slip it through to Mumbongo, it was cleared for a corner.
Midway through the half, Alex Ferguson slipped inside the box as he went to meet a cross from Connelly. Queens did win the corner, but it was cleared as McClelland attempted to challenge.
As Alloa looked to level, former Queens forward Ali Roy made a break but the flag was up for offside on the far side and the striker fired wide anyway. On the half hour mark, Roy was in again, but this time McClelland headed clear eight yards out. An in-swinging corner was cleared by Ferguson and then Gibson as Queens held onto their advantage.
With ten minutes of the first half remaining, Kurtis Roberts tried a shot from distance but cleared the crossbar.
And in the closing minutes. Mumbongo switched the ball from one side of the box to Todd on the other, as he headed it back into the path of Gibson, the wingers shot was blocked. And right on half time, Cochrane made a well-timed challenge at the edge of the box to clear.
HALF TIME: Alloa 0 Queens 1
As the second half got underway Logan fooled the home side as he stepped over the ball to let it through to Gibson and as the youngster made his way into the box, he played it to the defender who tried a wee back heel flick, but Morrison saved.
The hosts then enjoyed a decent spell as they forced Queens back and Stone had to make save to stop Luke Donnellys right foot effort before he made a great save when Ethan Sutherland got the better of Logan.
Queens had withheld the pressure and just after the hour mark, Cochrane won the ball in the middle of the park to set up a chance for Mumbongo but with his final input of the game, the big striker fired over.
After a string of substitutions by both sides, Logan was caught on the wrong side, but McClelland cleared when Donnelly tried to make space. And at the other end fellow subs, Kyle Doherty and Craig McGuffie combined but couldnt create an opening. Doherty then pounced on a mistake by David Devine, but his low shot was poor.
The home side continued to look for an equaliser, but Todd used his strength and experience to stop Buchanan from crossing and Stone collected as Miko Virtanen got on the end of a cross from the left to head towards goal.
As Doherty picked out Kieran McKechnie, Morrison saved his shot and then got up to save again this time from McGuffie.
However, the keeper was beaten again when Roberts clearance fell straight to McGuffie who fired a left foot effort past the keeper into the bottom corner to double Queens lead.
And in the final minutes, Morrison stretched to block from Doherty.
