Match Preview v Dunfermline (H) - 3rd Sept

After a three games on the road, we are back at Palmerston tomorrow when we host Dunfermline. Like ourselves The Pars suffered relegation last season. They’ve made a good start to the campaign and sit second tucked in behind the leaders only on goal-difference.

Last season we edged it against them by two games to one. Lee Connelly scored the only goal of the game the first time round at Palmerston in October. While on the return visit to Dumfries in January, Graham Dorrans and Dan Pybus scored in the first half to give the visitors a 2-0 victory. We faced each other for our final league game at East End Park and after Dunfermline had taken the lead, we came from behind in the second half and thanks to a Joe Chalmers own goal and a goal from Darragh O’Connor we came away with a 2-1 win. The other game between the two sides in the Championship last season finished three all.

Ahead of the game manager Wullie Gibson said “I am very proud of the players for the performance against Rangers at Ibrox on Tuesday night. They gave a very good account of themselves and despite losing the game, they can be very pleased with their efforts.

Since our last home game, it’s been mixed. We made a slow start at Peterhead and lost an early goal but managed to shake that off and for 75 minutes or so were excellent. They passed the ball, created chances and scored four goals. The kind of performance we are looking for.

However, they let it slip against Falkirk last week and were way off it in the first half. There was a big improvement after the break, but the damage had already been done. It’s not the first time it’s been a poor start to games and it’s something we need to get to the bottom of.

This week we play Dunfermline who like ourselves dropped out of the Championship last season and are looking for a quick return. They’ve made a decent start to the campaign and are on a winning run so confidence will be high but as I keep saying I believe in our players ability and we have match winners within the team so hopefully we can halt their run.

The support at Ibrox on Tuesday was tremendous, so thank you again for your backing. It would be great for that to continue, so please get behind the boys and create a positive atmosphere”.

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

As far as we are aware there are no ongoing roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match.

QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, it is extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

Supporters should note that due to a UEFA ruling we are no longer providing a stream of matches this season.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open from 1300 until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise. Including our new home and away kits.

As you may have heard our new Community Fridge is open. It will be open between 6 -8 pm on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday so that people from around the area can come along and pick up supplies. It is a great way for the club to help those in our community, so please spread the word that its there. To keep it stocked we will always be on the lookout for donations. So any supporters (home or away) who are attending the game tomorrow can drop off their donations at the Arena. The Press Office will also take in donations between 1300 – 1430.

Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3 pm.
