Match Preview v Dundee United

We kick off 2020 with a home game in the Championship tomorrow as we welcome league leaders Dundee United to Palmerston.

Both sides are in decent form going into the game. United are out on their own at the top of the table but we take to the field having won three of our last four league games.

It’s one win a piece between us this season so far, goals from Kevin Holt and Michael Paton along with a double from Stephen Dobbie earned us a comfortable 4 – 0 victory at Palmerston in October before United reversed the result with a 3 – 0 win at Tannadice in November.

Looking ahead to the match, Manager Allan Johnston said “Our win over Ayr United last weekend moved us to within touching distance of the teams in the top four. We started the game on the front foot and got ourselves ahead in the opening five minutes. We went on to create good chances and should’ve scored more before scoring our second. Ayr put us under pressure towards the end but we defended well and dug in to get a very important win.

There isn’t much between the teams now but as we keep saying we have to focus on own game, we have proved we are more than capable of beating the teams above us so we just need to find consistency against the teams round about us. Winning the derby match has given the boys a lot of confidence and set us up well for a massive game against the league leaders.

Dundee United are starting to run away with the league. They are on a really good run so we know we will have to be at our very best to get a result. However, we are hoping to continue our own good form as we want to start the year on a high”.
