SLO Committee Update

Throughout the season we have been asking supporters to send us their play-list requests. The final playlist for the 2017/18 season has been chosen by our director Mark Blount. We hope you have enjoyed them so far and we will continue this popular addition to match day next season, so please send your selections into us through the various contact methods mentioned at the end of this update.

You will also be aware that we chose a charity of the week for each home game. For the game against Dundee United we have chosen The Cystic Fibrosis Endowment Fund. A local charity set up by Gayle Johnstone and Donna Walls. All the money raised is kept locally to help support individuals and their families. The fund is held at the DGRI and there are contact details on the official Queens website should you wish to make a donation.

Our final game at Brechin next week is likely to be Derek Lyle’s final appearance in a Queen of the South strip. He is the club’s most decorated player, so it would be great to see as many of you turn out in force to celebrate what has been a fantastic Queens career for Del. Blue T-Shirts with the ‘Derek Lyle is having a party!’ slogan are available from Ross Corbett. They cost £10 each with all profits going to the Chris Mitchell Foundation, a charity close to all of our hearts.

The club museum and stadium tours that we’ve held so far have been very well attended. They are something that we plan to continue over the coming months. The next date is yet to be confirmed but you can contact any of the SLO committee or email [email protected] to register your interest. The tours are free but donations can be made.

Our next event will be on Scottish Cup Final Day, on the afternoon of 19th May in the Tartan Lounge at Palmerston. We will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of one of the greatest days in the Club’s history with a ‘Cup Final Day’. We will be showing the highlights of the early rounds of our Scottish Cup run along with a re-run of the 2008 Final ahead of this year’s final between Motherwell and Celtic. Tickets are now on sale from any of the SLO committee and we’ll make some available at the Club Shop, they are priced at £10 which includes Chicken Curry & Rice before the Scottish Cup Final and a pie later in the evening. There will be a raffle and an auction with some excellent items available. We will kick off the day at 1230, wrapping things up after the English FA Cup Final – this should be a good sociable end to the season, please come along and make it a great day with your fellow Queens supporters!

During the summer break, we along with the club will be entering a float in this year’s Guid Nychburris parade. Nearer the time we will be looking for volunteers to lend a hand, anyone who is willing to help please get in touch. The aim is to try and generate some more interest in the club and hopefully boost the gates for next season, your help would be appreciated.

We will also be resurrecting the annual “Palmerston Tidy Up” and hope fellow supporters will come along to help us give Palmerston a bit of TLC. The date for this is Sunday 8th July, starting at 9am. Light refreshments will be provided. Try to come along and help us get Palmerston looking good for the start of our centenary season.

Like everyone we are disappointed not to have made the play-offs, and like most recognise where we have fallen short this season. Our home form has been frustrating, but as we move into our centenary year your continued support will be needed more than ever!

There are various ways to contact us with your suggestions or any issues to have that you feel we may be able to help with: Through the link on the Official Website, Facebook, Twitter or c/o the club office where we will collect any mail. We will now have one email address for contacting us – [email protected] this should enable us to get back to you promptly with any requests or matters that need raised.

As we end our first season as the SLO Committee, we’d like to thank you all for your support and we look forward to seeing some of you at the Cup Final afternoon.

Iain, Nathan, Ross & Simon…. Mon the South!
