Queen of the South Ladies  2 V 2 Kilwinning : Match Report

The Ladies team played Kilwinning on Sunday 26th March, here is the match report

Queens were off to a good start in the game and were very soon on the attack when Megan going through the Kilwinning defence was brought down for a free kick just out side the penalty area. Lisa stepped up to deliver a good ball into Megan but her shot was well saved by the goalkeeper. On 15 minutes Kilwinning were on the attack and but for some good goalkeeping by Catherine saving 2 good shots could of taken the lead. From the goal kick Lindsey picked the ball up and Queens were back on the attack again as Lindsey played a good through ball for Megan to get on too and shoot only for the goalkeeper to parry the ball back out to Carly who’s shot went just over the bar. With Queens on the offensive for the next period of the game they went close to scoring through Haylie and Megan who both put their shots just past the post of the kilwinning goal. On 36 Minutes Queens won a corner that was played into the Penalty area but yet again the shot went wide of the goal. Then against the run of play Kilwinning got a break forwards, with striker getting onto a through ball from midfield she scored to give Kilwinning the lead. 1 v 0 to Kilwinning. Queens were back on the attack from the kick off when the ball was played into Carly who in turn played the ball for Megan to run onto but her shot hit the cross bar of t6he goal. This brought the first half to a close.

Second Half. 2 Substitutions for Queens Laura and Nikki off for Taylor and Kim.

Only 3 minutes into the second half Catherine received a back pass that she played back out to Ella who turned and passed forward into Lindsey who seen Kim making a good run down the Left wing to get onto the pass Lindsey played to her, she went on to beat the full back and slide a great pass to Carly who slotted the ball past the Kilwinning goalkeeper to make the score 1 v 1. On 52 minutes came the second Kilwinning goal again against the run of play when the midfielder picked up the ball 20 yards out from goal and placed a good shot into the Queens net to regain the lead, 2 v 1 to Kilwinning. Queens made 2 more substitutions with Ella and Naomi coming off and Megan Murray and Maureen coming on. This allowed Leona and Megan Murray to push a bit higher up the pitch from their fullback positions and give Queens more attacking options. On 70 minutes Queens got another corner but again they were unable to convert it into a goal. 72 minutes saw some good inter linking play from the Queens midfield which ended with 2 more shots by Megan and Haylie both being saved by the Kilwinning goalkeeper. As time was running out it seemed that Queens just weren’t going to score the goal to level the match but right on 90 minutes the Kilwinning goalkeeper came out to the edge of the area to claim the ball but fumbled it leaving Carly through on goal to score. The Final whistle blew to end the game Queens 2 v 2 Kilwinning.
