Update from the Manager

I think anyone that was at the game against Rangers or anyone who listened to it on the radio or watched it on television would agree that we deserved to take something from it.

The goal was a bit of a freak thing, it looked to be heading miles over before it took a wicked dip into the top corner.  But as I said after the game, we are disappointed at losing it from a throw-in and that’s something we’ve looked at during the week.

However, we are proud of the player’s efforts.  The performance especially in the second half was excellent and we have to be pleased with the number of chances we created.  If we put that level of performance in every game, then we will win more than we’ll lose.

We have a tough run of fixtures coming up, in the next two games we play the other teams in the top three in Falkirk and Hibernian and then we have another couple of midweek fixtures re-scheduled, so we’ll need big performances from now until the end of the season and we’ll need to use the squad.

With the competition for places we now have available, the players know they have to be at their best week in week out, and although it gives me a headache of team selection, that competition is a good thing.  The players know they need to make sure that their efforts, application and attitude are spot on both at training and during games.

Our next game is against Falkirk, there’s never been much between the two sides in the time that I’ve been in charge.  Our record against them isn’t a bad one and I hope that run continues.  They have quality and have been consistent this season and on top of that they don’t concede many goals, but we’ve been looking at ways that we think we can exploit any weakness.

Although I do believe they have quality within their side, I also believe that we have players who are every bit as good and the two sides match-up.  It’s down to who does things best on the day and I hope it’s us.

As far as the squad goes, Dale Hilson continues to make progress in his journey back to full fitness.  He will play in the Under 20’s match this evening to get some match sharpness.

Derek Lyle, is still struggling after having to come off during the first half on Sunday with a dead leg, we will give him to the last minute.

Andy Murdoch wasn’t allowed to play against his parent club last week, but is available again and returns to the squad for the trip to Falkirk.
