Development League Report : Queen of the South 2 Airdrieonians 2

After a  fairly low key start to things Queens soon took control of the game and got an early reward when Aidan Smith pounced on a short back header to smartly volley home from the edge of the box on 10 minutes. Moxon soon went close with a shot before Smith was denied from doubling the lead by the visiting keeper who saved low down from a sliding shot after Brannan had broken into the box.

Airdrie had barely been a threat as yet but on 39 minutes gained a free kick on the edge of the box and Nicholas Cadden curled a great effort into the far corner to give them an equaliser. Goals change games and the visitors turned the game round to take full control.

Having said that Pickard should have done better early in the second half after stealing the ball off a defender in the box but from this the visitors broke and were only halted by a foul on the edge of the box. Nicholas Cadden stepped forward and repeated his first half effort by curling in a second free kick of the night. That seemed to wake Queens up as they went looking for an equaliser. It came just after the hour when Neil’s neat cut back was met by a low Moxon shot that was only parried out and Jake Pickard was on hand to knock in the rebound.

With both teams looking to go and win the game both had penalty shouts turned down by the referee and both also shot over from corner scrambles as the game finished all square on the night.
