McShane: Bring on the play-offs

Ian McShane scored the opening goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Livingston to virtually secure play-off football for the Doonhamers.

Now the midfielder is raring to go for the chance to play in the Premiership next season to delight the fans and his manager.

Iain Russell scored the second goal that helped sink Livi at Palmerston on Saturday and McShane revealed that McIntyre was delighted with hims coring as he had been looking for more goals from the playmaker.

McShane said: “The Gaffer has been wanting me to get more goals so I managed to get one but the most important thing was to get the win.

“For my goal, I just seen the boy getting the ball in to his feet in midfield and I pressed him, managed to win it, went straight through on goal and Iain Russell was shouting for a pass but I took it on myself and finished it.

“At the start of the season we were hoping to maybe go further than the play-offs but we’ve got a good group of boys here, we just wanted to finish as high up the table as possible.

“That’s the play-offs more or less sorted now and that was the aim at the start of the season and we’ve managed to achieve that.

“We fancy our chances against anybody so we’ll take it as it comes.”

McShane also admits that Queens faltered at the start of this campaign but he believes a good run of form means that the Doonhamers deserve play-off football.

However, with one game to go, the 21-year old is still focusing on Saturday’s match with Cowdenbeath as nobody wants to lose out on their place in the squad.

He said: “Cowdenbeath still have something to play for next week so it won’t be easy.

“You want to keep the momentum going because if you get left out and somebody comes in and does well you might not get back in the side – you want to keep your place.

“We never started the season well but we managed to turn it around with a really good run of form – only losing three games in 14 – it was a brilliant run.

“We just need another good run until the end of the season now.”

To secure play-off football, Queens need to avoid a 12-goal swing as Dumbarton face league leaders Dundee on Saturday whilst McIntyre’s side face off against Cowdenbeath.

By 5pm on Saturday, McShane and the rest of the team will find out their fate and who they will face in the SPFL Championship play-offs.
