Reilly hails his 'best season'

Gavin Reilly believes he is having the best season of his career and it can only get better if Queens secure the play-offs. The 20-year-old is now joint top goalscorer with 11 goals in the league for Queens but the forward is hungry for more success. He said: “I scored 15 goals last season but I think it’s my best season so far because we’re a league up now. “The opposition makes it a tougher league but I’ve got 11 goals now and with a few games left hopefully I can get some more. “The last couple of months I’ve been chuffed since I’ve been scoring goals most weeks but it’s not all about that though. “Winning these games is the most important thing but it does give me a good confidence boost putting the ball in to the back of the net. “Hopefully I’m staking my claim for a place in the side by scoring goals but it isn’t just about that.” Reilly was speaking after Saturday’s 3-0 victory at home to Morton when the striker added to his tally with the game’s third goal. The Queens hitman continues to look towards the final five games in the season and is motivated to help Queens succeed in the play-offs. He said: “It was good play down the left by Chris Higgins and then Bob McHugh played in Iain Russell and he put it on a plate for us – if I had missed I couldn’t show my face! “It’s another three points and that’s exactly what we’re aiming for and it keeps us in fourth place which is where we want to be. “The priority at the start of the season was to make the play-offs and we’re in a good position now because if we keep winning our games we’ll remain there. “Right now, I’m happy playing for Queens and I just want to focus on scoring as many goals as I can and getting them as high up the league as possible. “I know a lot of people in Dumfries and I’m very friendly with them and they’re very friendly with me, which I’m grateful for.” The play-off push for Queens takes a well-deserved break this weekend as Sunday is Paul Burns’ testimonial but league action will continue the following Saturday at home to Falkirk.
