Morton Preview: Mark Kerr Interview

Mark Kerr insists Queens can bridge the gap between the Championship and the Premiership thanks to one man – Jim McIntyre.

The 32-year-old believes the organisation from both McIntyre and his assistant, Gerry McCabe, is vital to Queens’ stability this season.

He said: “I notice a few wee things that are different between the Championship and the Premiership but I think the way our manager sets us up helps us realise the differences.

“The gaffer goes through things day in, day out to help us become organised at set-pieces and make sure everyone knows their roles.

“Thanks to the coaching staff, we’re well drilled at everything we do and that is one big difference – organisation.

“I think that shows in the games as well as we never come out of a game looking like we’ve been battered and we’ve never been in it. We’re always coming out with something from the game or at least battling to get three points.”

Kerr was disappointed not to come away with anything on Tuesday night against Dundee, despite the team creating opportunities.

However, the Doonhamers midfielder wants to focus on the games that are left – starting with Morton tomorrow at Palmerston.

He said: “It’s been a bit frustrating in the games we’ve lost this season by a goal and Tuesday night against Dundee kind of sums that up when we missed some great chances. I don’t think it was merited to come away with nothing.

“Even going up to Dundee when they are sitting top of the table and on a good run, I still didn’t feel like we played poorly.

“But it’s been a good few months since I’ve been here and most of our results have been positive or at least the games have always been close.

“We’re in to the last six games and there will be pressure on every game now, whether you’re playing top of the league or bottom.

“Morton might be bottom of the league these games are still very important and they become extremely difficult.

“Even though Morton are almost relegated they can be very dangerous at this time of year as the writing is on the wall for them.

“An early goal would be great to settle us and hopefully we can go on and score a couple more before closing the game out.

“They might end up playing a bit more freely because they can relax with the point difference down there so we just have to make sure we keep doing our job and come away with three points.”

Queens host Kenny Shiels’ Morton at Palmerston tomorrow in a 3pm kick-off, with Queens sitting three points clear in the fourth place play-off spot.
