McHugh excited for Accies Clash

Bob McHugh marked his first goal for Queens last weekend – and is gunning for another against Hamilton tomorrow.

The striker – on-loan from Motherwell – was plagued with problems at the start of his time at Queens due to injuries, red cards and the unfortunate incident at the Morton game.

However, the 22-year-old scored his first for the Doonhamers in spectacular fashion against Dumbarton and McHugh is hoping for more of the same.

He stated: “Any time I score I’m delighted regardless of the circumstances that surround the goal but this one was a bit more important.

“It felt great to get that goal last weekend and as a striker you’re always looking to score even though you have other things to do on the park.

“There was a bit of relief in my celebration but that was down to the fact I hadn’t scored in a while and I knew the first one would get things started.

“I feel that at times, with everything that went on at Motherwell and the start of my time here, I was one of the unluckiest players around!

“But now I’m grateful to be playing first team football and I’m enjoying myself at Queens so I’m hoping the goal against Dumbarton can lead to more.”

McHugh was speaking ahead of this tomorrow’s game against Hamilton at Palmerston – and the striker is aware of the magnitude of the tie.

He said: “The game will definitely be fantastic and it’s an important one in terms of the league as they’re up there with the favourites to win the title.

“I’ve noticed since I joined Queens that every game is a big one and they all matter which is good for me and the team.

McHugh will play out the remaining ten games of the season with Queens but the former Scotland under-19 player insists his sole focus is Queens at the moment.

He said: “It’s certainly not going to do my chances at Motherwell any harm by playing here and hopefully scoring more goals.

“I’m happy playing my football right now and whatever happens next year we’ll deal with when it comes round to it.”
