McIntyre Praises 'Excellent' Queens After Convincing Victory

Queen of the South ended their four game winless run in the league with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Alloa Athletic at Recreation Park.

Iain Russell headed the Doonhamers in front after 15 minutes and added his second on 70 minutes after a superb solo run before Gavin Reilly wrapped up the points with a well-taken third four minutes later.

Queens manager Jim McIntyre said: “The win has been a long time coming.  Our play in recent weeks has been really good and we`ve been creating lots of chances but sometimes you get fed up saying that when you`re not getting results.  I get fed up saying it, fans get fed up hearing it so it`s great to put our chances away today.

“Scoring the first goal is crucial in this league, it really is.  It’s the first time we`ve done that in a wee while so it was great to take the lead and go on and complete the job.

“We won`t get carried away – it`s one win.  You want to build on that, you want to take it forward and start putting a bit of momentum together.  We know our first quarter of results weren`t good enough and we`re trying to improve that.

“Alloa have a very good record here, it`s a tough, tough place to come and to be fair to our lads I think we were excellent and I thought we deserved it.”

Iain Russell was Queens` star man as he grabbed a goal in either half to put his side on the road to victory.

Russell said: “I enjoyed getting the two goals and obviously getting the win, we`re all delighted with that.  It`s been a long time coming so all the boys are delighted.

“It`s been frustrating because we`ve been playing well but just not getting anything out of games so to get the three points today is great.

“Today we played as well as we have in other weeks where we haven`t won so to come here, a hard place to get points, we`re delighted to get the three points."

His manager was delighted with Russell`s part in the victory and McIntyre was quick to praise the former Livi striker:

“He possibly could have had a hat-trick, he should have scored the header in the first half.  The first goal was more pleasing for me because it came from a set-piece but the second goal showed great composure, great skill and a sublime finish.”

Number 11, Russell, is congratulated on his opening goal
