The unbeaten pre-season continued this afternoon with a 1-0 win over Gateshead at Palmerston. This was a step up on the previous friendlies with Gateshead a full time club who were beaten in the Conference playoff final at Wembley last season and a thoroughly good test for the players ahead of the weekend match with Rotherham. John Baird grabbed the only goal of the game right on the stroke of half time with a back post header from Holt`s deep cross. The goal owed much though to Danny Carmichael`s excellent run and pass in the build up. Although Queens spurned further chances to extend the lead in the second half it took a fine full length diving save from Jim Atkinson in the final minute to preserve the lead.
