Alexander again starts as the goalkeeper but is replaced by Davie Mathieson of Queen of the South. Young comes on as a sub for someone with whom he will play beside many times at club level, Barry Nicholson. Germany win 2-1. To help jog the memory of when this was, the next evening Don Hutchison scored in a 1-0 win for the Scots in the senior game

Queen of the South 2012 – present,

No bother to Young as he puts his penalty away in the shoot out at Ibrox

* Season 2012/13, Young played as a consistent, unsung hero in central midfield. He blended enthusiasm with sensible, neat and tidy football and a near pathological obsession of giving the ball to one of his own men. The cohesion he brought to the middle of the park was cemented with his organisational and communicative skills. Quite simply his displays oozed bags of experience of having played at a higher level. All season, Young played in only two QoS defeats, both in cup competitions to top division opposition (Dundee United & Killie). He scored in the penalty shoot out win away to Rangers in the Challenge Cup and repeated the feat in the final win v Partick. Allan Johnston`s Queens won the double of Division 2 Championship and Scottish Challenge Cup

* Young said after the cup final win, "To win the league the way we did and to come here as underdogs and play the way we did is tremendous. This doesn`t happen every week but we’ll go and enjoy it tonight.”
