RIP - Billy Little

Nov 8 2026 10:37

Everyone at Queen of the South were saddened to hear of the passing of former manager Billy Little.

Billy was born and brought up in Dumfries and whilst attending the town’s Academy he was called up to play for Scottish Schools u14 and u15s, playing alongside Denis Law.  He later played for Scotland Youth U18 side.

His football career then took him to Aberdeen in 1957 where he spent twelve years, making over 300 appearances and finished as their top goal-scorer twice.

On leaving Pittodrie he moved to Australia before returning to Scotland where he joined Inverness Caley before moving on to play for Falkirk, Stirling Albion and East Stirlingshire.

After his playing days he took over as manager at Falkirk and at the start of season 1979-80 he moved back to Dumfries to manage Queens. He also managed East Stirlingshire and Alloa Athletic.

In recent times Billy had been in a care home in Airth before recently being moved to the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert where he died on Friday aged 86. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him and we pass on our condolences to his family and friends.
