The Under 19s got their CAS league campaign underway. It was a difficult game for them in the advanced performance league against a very experienced Ayr side who had first team players like Jamie Murphy, Leon King and Ethan Walker playing.

It was a tough start to the match as the boys found it hard to curtail their hosts but they did get to grips with it and as they imposed themselves, they managed to get a goal back, ten minutes before the break when Kayden Reilly made a fine cross for Logan McKenzie who headed home.

The boys were five-one down at the interval but the second forty-five was much more of an even contest as the youngsters dug deep, stuck together and played with more courage. But it was the home side who rounded off the scoring as they added a sixth in the final minute.

Coach Eddie Warwick said “We had a very young team out made up of mostly last years under 17s group and they were up against a team full of experienced professionals some who have played in the Scottish Premiership so it was always going to be a tough ask. But they deserve credit for their efforts, work rate and commitment during the game. They could’ve given up after the fast start that Ayr made but they dusted themselves down stuck to the task and kept going and in the end, there was plenty positives to take from the game individually and collectively. The young lads have now seen the level required each week and they will be better for it.”
