Congratulations to our Under 16 team who have won the Club Academy Scotland Advanced Youth Under 16 League. The youngsters were crowned champions following last week's 3-0 home victory over closest rivals, Falkirk. Over their 24 league games, they amassed an impressive 17 victories, drawing 4 times and suffering defeat only thrice- scoring 80 league goals along the way! Their season ended on Sunday past with a comfortable 4-2 victory over Elgin City.
The team were presented with the league trophy and medals on Thursday 9th May at Palmerston Park. Campbell Money, head of the Club Academy Scotland Programme and new club director, Jim McLinden were on hand to congratulate the squad and hand over the trophy.
Coaches Andy Irving, Ross Newlands and Andrew Stephenson commented: "It goes without saying that the boys have worked incredibly hard since officially signing in July, following on from their weekly training sessions as part of the development squad. They have really gelled together as a close-knit group. As coaches we look for player progress and performances, however, as the season progressed it was great to see that the team had produced results that gave them a chance at winning the league. In a way, it was a different type of learning curve for them. All their hard work has paid off, so congratulations to them."
Director Jim McLinden commented, "I am a massive supporter of youth football. For me the youth set up at Queen of the the South is the life blood of the club and I was privileged to hand out the medals and trophy to the u16’s. The coaching staff led by Ross have done an amazing job and I am delighted for them all."
