It’s back to league one business for us tomorrow after a break for the SPFL Trust Trophy when we make the trip to Falkirk.
The hosts sit top of the table on goal difference from Hamilton Accies with 13 points from their opening 5 games. While they are still to lose a league game this season, we are unbeaten on the road.
We didn’t fare well against the Bairns last season, losing 3 of the 4 games. We lost the first two by the same 3-1 score-line. Back in August last year, we got off to a terrible start and found ourselves two goals down in the opening half hour. Ruari Paton did pull one back from the penalty spot, but Ola Lawal made sure of the victory with a third, seven minutes from time.
At Palmerston in October, Connor Murray scored a late consolation for us after a Rumarn Burrell double, and a Kia Kennedy strike had Falkirk three up.
While our last visit to the Falkirk Stadium just before Christmas proved to be one to forget. Again, we lost a goal in the opening 16 minutes, Paton and Iain Wilson goals had us ahead before a second half collapse saw us lose the game 5-2.
We did, however, pick up three points in March when a Coll Donaldson own goal settled the game at Palmerston.
Ahead of the trip this weekend, manager Marvin Bartley said “The players gave me everything last weekend against a very strong Championship side and got the rewards for their hard work and effort with a win over Partick Thistle. After letting our standards drop the week before against Montrose, I was looking for a reaction and the boys certainly stood up to the challenge.
It will be another very difficult game this weekend as we face the league leaders. As expected, they have made a good start to the campaign, but we have shown in the games that we’ve played against teams from higher divisions already this season that we are more than capable of competing. Having said that we know we will have to maintain the same level of effort, commitment and performance or we will cause ourselves problems.”
