Six Doonhamers

After returning to work this morning, manager Allan Johnston has been busy assembling a squad and we are now able to announce the first SIX signings.

Joining the club for season 2020/21 is; defender Gregor Buchanan, midfielders Joe McKee, Dan Pybus and Rhys McCabe along with forwards Connor Shields and Tommy Goss.

Thirty year old, Gregor is an experienced central defender who spent last season with Falkirk in league one after leaving Morton. Standing at six foot tall he has also been known to pop up with goals at the other end too.

Joe who spent last season with Dumbarton is a 27 year old attacking midfielder who has played in Scotland, Ireland and England. While, fellow midfielder, Dan needs no introduction as he played for the club last season. They are joined by central midfielder, Rhys who most recently played for Brechin City. He started his professional career with Rangers but is known to AJ who was his manager at Dunfermline Athletic.

Local boy Tommy has made a name for himself as a goal-scorer in the South of Scotland league with Abbey Vale. Tommy has moved up from our reserve team to sign his first professional contract. While the other frontman joining today, is 23 year old Connor who made 21 appearances for Aldershot last season after spending a loan spell in the Championship with Alloa.

All six who have signed one year deals took part in the first training session this morning.

AJ said “It’s good to be back and great that we can announce our first signings. They are all players that I have admired for some time. There are a couple that I know well having previously managed them and there are some that I have tried to sign previously but for one reason or another it never happened so I’m delighted to have been able to bring them on board this season and I look forward to being able to work with them.

We have brought in a mixture of youth and experience. They are players who have all played at various different levels of the game and each one brings different qualities but the important thing is that we are starting to build a squad that I believe can compete in the Championship.

It’s been a long lay-off and I and the players are just happy to be able to get back out on the training pitch to start working towards the first games. It’s been tough times and people’s health and wellbeing had to be at the forefront but now we can resume training and get back working on a daily basis we all have a new hunger for success”.

We have been speaking to the new signings and will bring you their thoughts about joining the club throughout the week.
