Match Preview v Arbroath

It’s another away game for us this weekend as we travel to Arbroath in the Championship.

Our league campaign began at Gayfield back in August when we opened with a point in a goal-less draw.  Since then we faced each other at Palmerston in December when we picked up a 2-0 win with goals from Dan Pybus and an own goal.

Last weekend we broke a run of defeats with a hard fought draw away to Morton, Manager Allan Johnston hopes to build on that tomorrow “It was very difficult conditions last week at Cappielow so both teams did well to make it an entertaining game.  Having been ahead twice in the match we should’ve been taking maximum points but it brought to an end the disappointing defeats which we needed to do.

There were some good performances throughout the team considering the conditions and from players who hadn’t played for a while or were carry knocks; the boys put their bodies on the line to grind out a point which is pleasing.

We have a lot of games coming up in a short space of time so we had a lot of players playing in the reserves this week as we want to get everyone up to speed.  I was there to watch and was happy with some of the performances; we need players putting pressure on those playing and to create competition for places.

Gayfield is always a difficult place to go, especially with a wind blowing.  Arbroath have shown this season that they are more than capable of competing in the Championship and in their last game beat Dundee United at Tannadice, so we know it will be tough and we have to make sure we start well.  We are coming up to a crucial part of the season, we are scoring goals but we need to defend a lot better than we have been,  There has been a turnaround in players so hopefully they are starting to get to know each other now”.
