Reserves Pick Up First Win

The Reserves won their first match of the season on Monday at Palmerston when they defeated a Motherwell side that included Tony Watt and Barry Maguire 4-2. It's been a tough couple of years for the Reserves as they play in the top level of the Reserve League with Dunfermline, Morton and 7 Premiership sides. We generally tend to field a very young side due to the small 1st team squad and although they did pick up a draw at Morton earlier this season, results have been hard to come by.

Striker Jack Hamilton was the star of the show grabbing a 'hat-trick' and opened the scoring in 8 minutes. Tony Watt equalised before Jack Leighfield saved a penalty from Ross McIver. The teams were level at the break but an early double from Hamilton, the 2nd one a penalty, to complete his treble put Queens in control and a close range header from Callum Semple made it 4-1 on 72 mins. Although McIver did pull one back near the end the boys held on for an excellent win. It came at a cost though as both Ewan Gourlay and Callum Semple had to leave the field with head knocks, Semple taking a kick in the face as he scored the 4th goal.

Manager, Wullie Gibson, who took part in the game as a 'Trialist' to help guide his young side from an on pitch position and finished up playing centre back due to injuries, said, "It was a great result, but what pleases me most was the performance. The boys worked their socks off and played well for long spells. There was also a great attitude from the 1st team boys who were involved and led by example. I'm sure Allan will have looked at their performances and been pleased and he now has plenty to think about in terms of his 1st team selection come Saturday".
