Match Preview v Clyde

This weekend we take a break from the Championship as we head to Clyde in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup.

Although the two sides met in a closed door game pre-season it’s over 10 years since our last competitive fixture.  That came in the old Irn Bru First Division when Queens won 7 – 1 on the 25th of April 2009.  A certain Stephen Dobbie scored four goals in the match.  He opened the scoring in the fourth minute and went on to score a second half treble, with Stewart Kean, Stevie Tosh and Bob Harris the other scorers that day.

Our last visit to Broadwood was in February that year when the game finished 1 – 1.

As he prepares the team for the cup tie, Manager Allan Johnston said “A lot of people will look at this and think it should be easy for us, but this is going to be a tough cup tie.  Clyde have some really good players like David Goodwillie and of course Chris Johnstone, who I played with at Kilmarnock.

We played them pre-season so we know they are a good side.

It’s good for us as well so that players like Stephen Dobbie and Faissal El Bakhtaoui who are still getting back up to speed can get more game time under their belts.

After losing to Alloa last week, we can understand the frustrations and we want to get a victory in the cup to give us all a boost.

There is no doubt that the performance against Alloa was nowhere near good enough so we will be going out to prove that it was a one off”.
