There was one final piece of footbal action this evening as some of the u20's squad along with coach Eddie Warwick kept their promise to play the FFIT Club members at Walking Football at the end of the course. The game should have taken place on one of the past two Tuesdays but was delayed whilst the 20's played their semi final and then final in the South of Scotland Cup.
The SPFL funded FFIT programme began in January and back at the start the 20's had challenged the group to a game when the programme was complete. It took place at the KGV MUGA this evening and it was the professionals who eventually triumphed by a score of 9-6 after an hour. The game was very close for long periods with the FFIT group leading for most of the first half and still level at 6-6 after 40 minutes but in the end superior passing and movement told. If truth be told the sides were not entirely even in numbers either! Top scorers for the 20's came in the fairly unlikely form of left back Rhys Evans and the even more unlikely form of goalkeeper Danny Armstrong, playing outfield, who each struck four of their nine. Jay McInally scored the other one. Ewan Lithgow hit five of the six scored by the FFIT club members, with Ian Johnston grabbing the other. A special mention to George Service for some outstanding goalkeeping to keep the score down.
Although the FFIT Club has now finished, the group are continuing to meet to play walking football on a Tuesday night and the club has been happy to support their ongoing efforts by providing an hour of time on the MUGA.. Hopefully the majority will manage to keep the weight they lost off and maybe lose a bit more!
We hope to run a new FFIT programme later in the year subject to funding being made available.
The u20's group will now break for holidays from Thursday and those returning will be back for pre-season in four weeks time. We hope the boys all enjoy themselves (but not too much!) and come back refreshed and ready to start again and we wish the best of luck to the small number now moving on to continue their football careers or education elsewhere.
