Update from the Manager

The game at Dumbarton on Tuesday was the story of our season, as our inconsistent performances were on show either side of half time.

I felt after falling behind early on we dominated and looked comfortable for the first half and then we come out after the interval, switch off, lose concentration and don’t learn from previous errors and suddenly find ourselves behind again and we just didn’t react and ended up getting nothing from the game.

Unfortunately it’s not the first time it’s happened and for some reason we can’t seem to find an explanation for why we seem to continually make the same mistakes.  Moving forward it is something we have to rectify to ensure we stop doing ourselves in.

Some of the goals that we’ve lost throughout the season and especially the other night were nothing short of embarrassing.  We are a bit short of options and we’re asking players to play out of position but the players who are selected shouldn’t be making the fundamental mistakes that they have in recent weeks.

I pick the team so will shoulder some of the blame but the players have to take some responsibility too.

We still have three games to go, so nine points to play for – we’re playing for personal pride as well as trying to finish fifth as it makes a difference to the club financially. I’ve said it before and I will say it again, we’re all playing for our futures and where we finish in the league may be the difference of contracts being offered or not so no one can afford to switch off.

This weekend, we head to Alloa for our penultimate away match of the season, it’s been a wee while since we were there and they have narrowed the pitch since our last visit, which has caused much controversy in the past months.  So it will be interesting to see just how much a difference it’s made.

We know we’re going to play a side who have already been relegated, a side who have no pressure on them.  They like us will want to finish the season on a high; they showed they can grind out results with a win over Hibernian last weekend, so we need to make the trip in the right frame of mind and with the right attitude.  And to give ourselves the best possible chance of three points we have to first and foremost cut out the mistakes that we’ve self-inflicted upon ourselves throughout what has been a frustrating season.

We are still monitoring the fitness of both Derek Lyle and Kyle Hutton who missed Tuesday’s game at Dumbarton to assess if they’ll be available for Saturday or not.  Jordan Marshall who has been missing since our trip to St Mirren is back in training but the trip to Alloa might still just be a bit too soon for him.
