Youth Cup Tie v Cumbernauld Colts

With the 1st team having no game on Saturday, why not come along to Palmerston and lend your support to the u20's squad as they face Cumbernauld Colts in the 4th round of the Little Big Shot Scottish FA Youth Cup. Kick off is at 1pm.

This competition is the equivalent of the senior Scottish Cup but strictly for u20's only with no overage players allowed. Queens have a fine record in it over the years, finishing runners up to Aberdeen in 1986 and again to Celtic in 2012. We are one of the few clubs to reach the final from outside the top division and only ourselves and Ayr United have done so twice. The 2012 side included Jim Atkinson, Scott Hooper, Pat Slattery and Gavin Reilly amongst others.

Queens advanced to the last sixteen with an excellent and dramatic 2-1 3rd round victory over Edusport Academy who top the South of Scotland League. Aidan Smith and Richard Murray were the scorers. This matches last season's achievement when we reached the 4th round only to be slightly unfortunate to be eliminated 2-0 at Palmerston by a Rangers side who went on to finish runners up. Celtic are the holders and have won the trophy in five of the last six seasons, Rangers winning in 2014.

Our opponents, Cumbernauld Colts, have reached this stage for the first time after beating Edinburgh City 3-1, Stirling Albion 2-1 and Deveronvale 4-1, all three away from home. They definitely should not be taken lightly. It's a massive weekend for them as their first team play Stirling Albion away for a place in the 4th round of the senior Scottish Cup. The 1st team sit 5th in the Lowland League at the moment and will have ambitions of pushing for SPFL status soon, playing out of Broadwood.

The draw for the 4th round this time is as follows:

St Johnstone v Celtic
Queen of the South v Cumbernauld Colts
Motherwell v Kilmarnock
Greenock Morton v Ross County
Dundee United v Dundee
St Mirren v Rangers
Ayr United v Airdrieonians
Heart of Midlothian v Inverness Caledonian Thistle

Remember, Kick off is at 1pm on Saturday. Admission is Free of Charge though there will be an opportunity to put a donation in a collection bucket towards the youth team expenses if you wish.
