McShane reflects on Hearts defeat

Ian McShane described Saturday’s 4-1 defeat to Hearts as a ‘rollercoaster’ of emotion.

McShane won the penalty which Iain Russell dispatched to cancel out James Keatings opener for the Jambos. However, goals from Danny Wilson, Prince Buaben and Adam Eckersley maintained Hearts’ lead at the top of the Championship.

The 21-year-old was disappointed at the scoreline as he felt it wasn’t a fair reflection on the game.

He said: “It’s a rollercoaster because we get the penalty and then Higgy misses the header – it was a great save from the goalie – then they go and get three goals.

“It makes it look like it wasn’t as close a game as it actually was.

“I thought we were unlucky, we had a great chance at 1-1 but that’s what happens when you come to places like this, they punish you on the break.

“We changed shape at half time and we came out and played really well and managed to get the goal back from the penalty.

“They caught us on the break a few times and that’s why they’re top of the league and still unbeaten.”

Hearts made it 15 games unbeaten and kept their nine point lead atop of the Championship and McShane believes they will be their come the end of the season.

Queens welcome the Jam Tarts’ tital rivals Rangers this Friday and the midfielder is keen to bounce back after running Robbie Neilson’s side close on Saturday.

He said: “We’ll be confident going in to the Rangers game because they’re not playing as well so hopefully we can get a result.

“We’ve gave Hearts a scare and we’re maybe unlucky not to get a point.

“In the league, I think Rangers will run them close but Hearts will sneak it in the end.”

Palmerston Park is the place to be this Friday night when Queens take on Rangers in a 7:45 kick-off.
