Reilly Brace Sees Off Stenny

Queen of the South continued their relentless march towards promotion as they extended their lead at the top of the table to 11 points after a Gavin Reilly double helped defeat Stenhousemuir 3-1 at Ochilview Park.

Reilly broke the deadlock in a tight first half on 31 minutes before setting up Nicky Clark for his 21st goal of the season after 55 minutes and wrapping up the win on 68 minutes.  Former Queens forward Stewart Kean scored a late consolation goal for the home side.

Manager Allan Johnston was full of praise for his firing frontmen: "Nicky scored again, I think thats him on 21, and delighted for Gav to get a couple of goals because he has been threatening that for the last couple of weeks.  You can see his confidence there, he is flying."

Gavin Reilly: "It is good to get two goals again, Ive not scored for a few weeks and at the end of the day we have got three points and thats all that matters at this time of the season.

"I feel that once we adapted to the park we played some good football there and we dominated for most of the game."

Queens made an early tactical switch as Stephen McKenna replaced Dan Orsi after 35 minutes that saw them control the remainder of the match.

Johnston: "We put Stephen McKenna on because they were outnumbering us in the middle of the park just so we could get a hold of the ball again and once we did that I thought we looked the better team.

"I thought we were the better team second half, we got the ball down and passed it and created chances.  We missed a few as well and especially in the middle of the park we competed well and always looked dangerous.

"We go into every game expecting to win and we dont sit back, we go and try to win every game.  That is the attitude they have shown all season and they have got to keep doing that for the remainder."
