Off to a winning start

Having won all six pre-season friendly matches, Queens were favourites to beat Dumbarton in this the opening round of the Ramsdens Challenge Cup--even though we were the visitors.

Just a couple of years ago we beat them 5-1 in the League Cup but it proved a much harder task this time around.

The all important winner came from a 69 minute header from Nicky Clark following a cross from Dan Carmichael.

Manager Allan Johnston fielded a strong starting line-up but admitted the homesters made it difficult for us.

And `Magic` stressed, "It`s always great to get off to a good start and get that first victory under your belt.

"Dumbarton are a good playing side so I was delighted to get off on a winner."

"Young Nicky Clark was more than happy with his own personal contribution and added, "I was very happy and couldn`t have asked for better in our first match of the season.

"It was a good confident start!

"We`re now all looking forward to the next round."
