In their first home outing as a newly formed squad the youngest of our academy sides aimed to avenge a difficult opening night away at Dunfermline two weeks ago.

The under 17s started the match on fire, scoring twice in the opening five minutes through Hunter and McGimpsey. Queens continued to control the first 25 minutes, creating more chances and limiting their visitors. The second part of the half was more even with Edinburgh creating opportunities of their own.

The second half started much like the first with Queens creating more chances but to no avail. This was until McGimpsey fired home a quick fire double for his hattrick putting the home side four - nil up.

The game became scrappy before Edinburgh forced home a chance to reduce the deficit with fifteen minutes remaining.

But Hunter rounded off the scoring when he beat the offside trap to calmly finish beneath the keeper.

Coach Ross Newlands said “It was a very positive performance. The boys are learning quickly and working hard to improve across all areas of the game. They are under no illusion of the task ahead of them but if they keep working as hard as they are on the training pitch, progress will come.”

Next week the boys visit Kirkcaldy to face Elgin City in an 'away' fixture.
