Now that we have had time to assess the injuries sustained at Cove on Saturday, Manager Peter Murphy has given the following squad update.
Menzi Mazwi, took a really sore one and is now back down with Birmingham being assessed and having an MRI. He went to hospital in Aberdeen for an x-ray, there was no broken bones or fractures but there is cartlidge and ligament damage so it looks like he's going to be out for about 6 to 8 weeks, which is really disappointing. We brought him in and he looked really good in training and he was looking forward to the challenge.
Liam Smith also took a really sore one on Saturday and he hasn't trained all week. Jack Stott, had to be taken off with a bit of a muscle injury at Cove and hasn’t been able to train.
Jack Hannah missed Saturday because of the head injury against Inverness, but we hope he's available for this weekend.
Brennan Dickinson is only coming back from a really bad foot injury. Mikey Hewitt is struggling with a calf injury but he's playing through the games, but hasn't really trained.
Ross Stewart has been carrying a shoulder since the Raith game, so he has had limited training. He trained a couple of times this week, but less than usual.
Kurtis Guthrie is struggling with his ongoing foot problem and also has pressure on his knee.
Kai Kennedy has an issue with his knee, and has now had his x-ray. We are waiting to hear back from the physio and doctor on what it is, so it's just a waiting game to find out about him.
Benji Luissint, dropped out of training on Tuesday with his ongoing knee injury.
The Gaffer added ““We've got a few sore bodies at the minute. It’s been a tough season, a tough load on the players but they're playing for the club, playing for the team, playing for each other. We just have to try and manage them through to the Saturdays to get them prepared. We’ve not had a lot of training at the moment to try and make sure we have the right number of players available for the games.”
“So, we are delighted the Chairman's backed us to bring Nicky Clark in. I'm sure, from being here previously he is a fans favorite. He's a bit older now and got more football and wisdom behind him, so hopefully he can come in and help the team with his experience. He's come in, looks really excited to be here and looks really sharp. So, we're looking forward to getting him out on the pitch.”
The manager has also confirmed that two youngsters, Billy Gray and Kylan Hunter have gone out on loan to Dalbeattie Star “Kylan has done well for the 19s and probably just needs that extra little push if he's going to progress. Whereas Billy has been in around the first team and done really well, but he's had a foot injury of late and since he's come back, he looks a bit rusty and looks like he's taking a little bit more time to get back up to speed and at this stage of the season he's probably better off going out and playing men's football as well for his development. So, it’s good to get the two of them out to get experience.”
