Under 16s Update

Mar 4 2025 13:03

As we continue to build the youth academy, we aim to provide regular updates from the different squads. This week, under 16s coach Ross Newlands has provided a summary of what has been happening with their games since the turn of the year.

“It has been a disrupted start to 2025 with the weather, combined with free weeks in both the cup and league playing havoc with fixtures. On Sunday (16th Feb) the youngsters headed to Alloa. The game got off to a bad start as the boys were three goals down inside the first sixteen minutes. However, much to their credit they played their way into the game and Dylan Craig, Lucas Jones, and Alfie Copland all scored to level things up again at the interval. With a bit of momentum, Queens started the second half the better side and took the lead through a back post finish from Jones. Alloa did not lie down though and edged their way back into the game, equalising with a swift counter attack. The game looked like it was going to end a stalemate until the 85th minute when a fine move was finished off by Jones, giving him a well-earned hattrick. Despite a bit of pressure from the home side, Queens stood firm and won a nine-goal thriller.”

“The following week the team were back at home when Falkirk were the visitors to a very wet and windy Palmerston. The game was a difficult watch with most of the 90 minutes played in the Portland Drive half of the pitch. Queens attacked the Oakbank Terrace first with a strong wind at their backs. However, despite a few chances, they did not capitalise and it was goal-less at the break. The second half was a tough test for the young side as they battled the elements which were only getting worse. Falkirk managed to take their chances and ran out three-nil winners.”

Sunday’s match was postponed due to Loch Leven Community Campus being double booked.
