Iain McChesney

Everyone at Queen of the South is saddened to learn this evening of the death earlier today of Iain McChesney. Without doubt an all time Club Legend, Iain McChesney made 615 appearances for the club, second only to his close friend Allan Ball, over a 21 year spell at Palmerston as a player. He also scored 79 goals which sees him currently sit as 13th in the club's all time scorers list despite not being a forward player generally.

After his long playing career finished, 'Ches' continued to serve the club as a coach, scout and, on at least a couple of occasions, as Caretaker Manager. An electrician to trade he also regularly worked on the Palmerston floodlights. An article about his long association with the club can be found here.

He was inducted into the club's Hall of Fame in 2013.

Sadly Iain has been in poor health for some time but pre Covid could still be found in the Main Stand on matchdays. All of our thoughts are with his family and friends. Funeral arrangements will be published when available.

Rest in Peace 'Ches'
