Match Preview v Montrose (H) - 2nd Sept

Sep 1 2023 12:00

We are back home tomorrow for the visit of Montrose in League one.

The visitors hold the bragging rights from our four meetings last season, with 2 wins from 4 with 1 Queens win and a draw. The two sides fought out a goal-less draw in the first game at Links Park, before Queens cruised to victory 4-0 at Palmerston thanks to a double from Ruari Paton and further goals from Gavin Reilly and Josh Todd.

Blair Lyons scored the only goal of the game when we travelled back North as the hosts secured the three points with a 1-0 win. In the last game between the two sides, Jack Brydon and Stephen Hendrie scored before both being sent off in a 3-2 defeat. All the goals came in the first half, Rory McAllister with two and Craig Brown scoring for Montrose.

It’s been an indifferent start to this campaign for Stewart Petrie’s men and they sit 8th in the table with three points from their opening four games.

Looking ahead to the game, Manager Marvin Bartley said “Last week at Cove we made the perfect start. We had spoken as a group about needing a strong start and by that we meant don’t concede and build into the game. To score after just two minutes was fantastic. We were up against it in the last quarter of the game being down to ten men but the boys who started and those who came on put their bodies on the line and I was proud of every one of them.

That’s three wins in a row for us and nine points on the board which is great but those games are gone now and we move on to Montrose.

They are a side who have been competitive in this division over the last few years so we know what they have to offer. But we will go into the game looking to keep our form going, I want to turn the three unbeaten into four. That’s doesn’t happen unless we’re 100% at it from start to finish”.

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

People travelling should check Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match. The Snaq café within the Arena is also open and will have a range of food/snacks on offer ahead of kick off.

For safety reasons, QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue; this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise. Including half-time draw tickets and match day programmes.

Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3 pm.
