Match Preview v Annan Athletic 190823

A bit of history will be made at Palmerston tomorrow as we face Annan Athletic in our first ever league meeting. Although the two sides have played each other in friendlies and cup competition, this is the first time we have been in the same division.

We played the Black and Gold last season at Palmerston in the Premier Sport cup when Lewis Hunter scored late on to secure a 3-2 win for the visitors.

Our victory away at Edinburgh City last weekend moved us to fourth in the table, while Peter Murphy’s men are still looking for their first points of the campaign and sit bottom. However, they go into the game on the back of a good cup win over Stranraer on Tuesday.

As well as being a local derby and our first competitive fixture, there will be added spice with several familiar faces within the Annan squad.

Manager Mavin Bartley said “I was delighted to get off the mark last weekend away at Edinburgh. It was a game I felt we were always in full control of, and the conceding of a sloppy goal gave them something to try and hang on to. The players reacted in a fantastic way to the setback and turned it around. I knew once we got the first, we would get the second.

Our last home game against Alloa was frustrating as I don’t think we played badly but the goals we gave away were far from acceptable and we ultimately paid the price. I wanted a reaction from the players and got one.

This week we face Annan, it’s a local derby and our first competitive league meeting so there will be added spice but for us it’s our next game which makes it our biggest of the season. We need to go out and build on the victory and keep up the momentum.

Enjoy the game and get behind the team.”

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park on a first come first served basis. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

People travelling should check Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspxfor confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match. The Snaq café within the Arena is also open and will have a range of food/snacks on offer ahead of kick off.

For safety reasons, QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue; this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise. Including half-time draw tickets and match day programmes.

Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3 pm.
