Return of the 'Shug'

We are delighted to confirm that midfielder Iain Wilson is the next player to commit his future to Queen of the South. ‘Big Shug’ has agreed a two year contract.

The Ayrshire based midfielder has previously had two loan spells at Palmerston during his time at Kilmarnock and his box to box, physical style was a hit with the Doonhamer supporters. After leaving Kilmarnock he signed a two year deal at Dunfermline but parted ways with them last season and played the second half of the season as Gavin Reilly’s team mate at Morton. He has also been capped by Scotland at every level from u17 through to u21’s.

Wullie Gibson said, “I’m absolutely delighted to get ‘Big Shug’ on board. I know he had offers in the Championship and other League One sides but he loved his time at Queens previously and is desperate to help the club back to the Championship. We know the quality he brings. This is a big boost for the squad.”

Iain Wilson added, “I really enjoyed my previous spells at Queens, although the last one ended early due to Covid. I felt I had unfinished business at Palmerston. I had a great rapport with the fans and it’s a club I really felt at home with. I’m fit and raring to get started at pre-season. I’m looking forward to meeting up with the rest of the squad, and of course I was with Gavin last season. There are still plenty of familiar faces at the club too.”
