We have a break from the Championship this weekend as we take on Raith Rovers in the FINAL of the SPFL Trust Trophy.
It will be our fifth game against the Starks Park side this season, the four league matches have all been close encounters, with a win each and two draws.
Our path to the final began in September when we beat Broomhill 3 – 0 at Palmerston with goals from Ruari Paton, Lee Connelly and Wullie Gibson. We then knocked Partick Thistle out of the competition with a good 2 – 0 home win in October. Lee was again on target that night with Ally Roy adding the second.
In the Quarter finals we took on Morton at Palmerston when Max Johnston and Ruari scored in a 2 – 1 win. Our cup journey then headed to the North East where we faced Cove Rangers at the beginning of March. Aidan Fitzpatrick scored the only goal of the game after 64 seconds to see us through to Sunday’s showpiece in Airdrie.
We have a good history in the competition, this is the fifth time we have made it to the last two. We have won the trophy twice already, beating Brechin City 2-0 in 2002/03 and Partick Thistle on penalties (after a 1-1 draw) in 2012/13. So, let’s get behind the team and hopefully we can bring back the trophy for a 3rd time!
Manager Wullie Gibson and some of the players took time out earlier in the week to preview the game. Captain Josh Todd shared his pre-match thoughts with QOS TV earlier in the week.
