Match Preview v Motherwell (Away)

The games keep coming thick and fast and tomorrow we have our third game in the space of a week when we travel to face Motherwell in the group stages of the Premier Sports Cup.

Motherwell got their campaign underway with a one – nil win over Queens Park at Firhill in midweek thanks to a first half goal from Steven Lawless.  While we bounced back from our opening day defeat against the Spiders with a 3 – 1 victory over Annan at Galabank.  Ruari Paton opened the scoring with Ally Roy grabbing a double.

We currently sit top of Group F on 3 points ahead of the hosts in second who have the same points but have played a game less.

The two sides have faced each other twice in recent seasons, with Well claiming the victory on both occasions.  A 2 - 0 win at Fir Park in 2018 was followed by a 3 - 0 victory at Palmerston the following year.

The match will arguably be our toughest game of the group, Manager Allan Johnston said “Motherwell will be favourites to win the group being the Premier league side so we know it will be a tough game but these are the games you want to play in, a chance to test where you are at”.

“We are still working on building up the squad so we will be relying on the same players again.  It is a tough ask but it means they are continuing to build up their fitness ahead of the league campaign.  We will be without Calvin (McGrory), his booking against Annan means he will miss this one through suspension but it’s a real opportunity for some of the younger players to play”.

A crowd of 2000 will be at Fir Park as the home side welcome crowds back for the first time.  All tickets have been allocated via a season ticket ballot so there will be no away fans there or on the day ticket sales.

However, the match is being streamed live https://ppv.motherwellfc.co.uk/login for £10.

Kick off – 3pm
