In what was an even first-half, it was the home side who looked slightly more dangerous. A long range effort from Tony Wallace forced Josh Rae into a save down to his left.

It was the South who took the lead on 32 minutes though and the Trialist wearing the number four jersey got on the end of a free-kick crossed into the box, knocking it past East Fife’s 17-year-old ‘keeper.

Euan East and Danny Denholm each saw shots flash past the goal, before the Doonhamers doubled their lead.

Connolly picked up a slack pass from the home team in the middle of the park before playing through Todd, whose shot clipped the inside of the post before rolling in.

Unlike Saturday, Queens made no changes at the break as the players try to build up their fitness before the Premier Sports Cup begins a week on Saturday.

And it paid off as Queens made a blistering start to the second half as Connolly got himself on the scoresheet, nodding a Willie Gibson cross home.

There could have been more goals had East Fife been clinical in front of goal, or had substitute Niyah Joseph been able to tap in a cross at the back post, although the home ‘keeper saved well.

Seven changes were made by Queens overall, with Trialists Number 3, 5, 11 and Josh Rae the only four players for Queens completing the full 90.

Next up Queens host Stranraer at Palmerston on Saturday in the third and final pre-season friendly.
