We welcomed East Fife for our latest league one fixture and manager Peter Murphy made one change to the side that started against Stenhousemuir last weekend with Kurtis Guthrie replacing Freddie ODonoghue upfront.
In the opening minutes Jack Hannah slipped and mistimed a challenge that allowed Nathan Austin through on goal but Matty Douglas put him under enough pressure inside the box. Benji Luissint was then slack with a pass but Queens managed to recover. It was early pressure from the visitors but it was the home side who made the breakthrough after six minutes. When on the line Guthrie set up Liam Smith inside the six-yard box to finish with his right foot.
Two minutes later, Smith turned provider when he delivered from the right and Jack Stott was on the end of it to score, a second for Queens, a third in three consecutive games for the midfielder.
Queens were now in control and Guthrie got the better of Mamdou Bah but his final ball into the box was cleared. As they pushed again, Smith raced down the wing and delivered into the 18-yard area, Guthries effort was blocked but fell to Kai Kennedy who took a touch and Ruairidh Adams came out to block the shot.
Smith was causing problems and Michael McKenna was booked for a challenge as the winger broke. From the free-kick, Kennedy floated it into the back-post but the ball was cleared.
As play switched to the other side, a great ball down the left channel was collected by Reece Lyon who crossed in for Guthrie who took it away from the defender but Adams pulled off a save.
Midway through the half, in a rare attack by the guests Hannah made a good tackle on Lewis Latona outside the box but as the ball stayed in play, the defender bounced up quickly and made a second challenge this time to clear from McKenna on the byline for a corner.
Taylor Charters picked up an injury and was replaced by Niall Rogerson before Smith moved from the center out to the left to open up space but Andrew Munro got his body behind it.
With five minutes to go to the break Bah hit the post with a header from the center of the box. And with the last real chance of the first half, Zander McKenzie had a left foot shot from outside the box blocked.
HALF TIME: Queens 2 East Fife 0
It was the hosts who made a quick start to the second half and as Lyon tried to side foot the ball into the net, Brian Easton managed to get his foot on it to divert it away. Guthrie then looked to be pushed and pulled and being held onto in the box but he managed to get the shot away but it needed more power and the keeper saved.
The pressure paid off just before the hour mark when Kennedy played the ball wide to Mackenzie on the left who was in space, his first time delivery into the box found Guthrie at the back-post and the big striker headed home.
Queens were playing some good football going forward and were solid at the back with some well-timed challenges and powerful clearances, Douglas made one from Latona at the edge of the box.
Midway through the second half, Kennedy played the ball in for Lyon who was about two-yards out from goal but as the ball dropped, he was too close to steer it over the line. As they continued to attack Mackenzie hit a left foot shot that came back off the defender.
In the closing stages, McKenna made a break and as Hannah hunted him down, he made a terrific tackle at the edge of the box.
