Manager, Peter Murphy made one change to the starting eleven for the visit of Dumbarton. With Brennan Dickenson picking up a hamstring injury at Stenhousemuir, he was replaced by Harry Cochrane.
Looking to keep the positive momentum going, Queens made a great start to the game and within two minutes, Kieran McKechnie hit a right foot shot wide of the upright.
The home side maintained the pressure and Kai Kennedy made his way down the right channel before crossing into the box. Matty Douglas got on the end of it, but he headed over the bar. The visitors were on the back foot and as Cochrane played the ball over the top, it was out of reach of Reece Lyon. The Sons still hadnt cleared it properly and Leighton McIntosh and Cochrane both had attempts blocked.
They did make a breakthrough with fourteen minutes played when Lewis ODonnell fired a right foot shot into the top corner from the edge of the box.
Five minutes later as they looked to get into the game, former Queens frontman, Michael Ruth hooked the ball across goal for the visitors, but the ball was cleared before Ethan Brown could have a shot. The Doonhamers broke through McKechnie but as he was challenged at the edge of the 18-yard line, the ball was played back up field and Ruth hit his effort the wrong side of the near post.
It was a good spell for Dumbarton and although Finlay Gray looked offside the flag stayed down and as he made his way into the box, Oscar MacIntyre tackled inside the box, Stevie Farrell and his bench were insistent it was a penalty, but referee Gary Hanvidge deemed it a fair challenge.
A short time later, Matty Shields stayed onside but shot straight into the arms of Ross Stewart before Ruth dragged a shot well wide of the target.
Queens then put themselves in danger with a poor kick out and Stewart had to collect from the resulting corner. The final chance of the first half, also fell to the visitors but as Kalvin Orsi played the ball into the front post, Ruth missed with a header.
HALF TIME: Queens 1 Dumbarton 0
After a lengthy delay due to an injury sustained by the referee the second half eventually got underway and within five minutes of the restart, Queens doubled their advantage. Kennedy picked out Mikey Hewitt on the right and he kept his shot low across the keeper into the bottom corner.
Queens had regained control of the game and McIntosh made his way forward through the middle before picking out Lyon to his left, this time Brett Long blocked from close range.
On the hour mark, McIntyre did well to hold off the challenge at the byline to get the ball across, Cochrane met it at the back post, but he headed over.
McIntyre was again involved within seconds as he outpaced the defenders, McKechnie was in space but by the time he had the shot Dumbarton were back to cover up.
It was all the hosts and Hewitt at the corner of the box hit another low shot but this time it was just wide. As Queens pressed again, McIntosh was through one on one, but he blasted over.
Midway through the half Dumbarton were reduced to ten men when Mark Durnan was shown a straight red for a last man challenge on McIntosh as he was homing in on goal. Kennedy took the free kick, but his right foot effort rattled the crossbar.
With eight minutes remaining, McIntosh was brought down inside the box by Brown. The striker got up to take the spot kick himself but as he fired straight down the middle Long saved with his feet.
Two minutes later Carlo Pignatiello blasted over from the centre of the 18-yard line.
And in added on time McIntosh held off Brown but the keeper blocked his effort.
