Cove Rangers were the visitors to Palmerston for our first home game of the league campaign. Following the goal-less draw at Alloa, Manager Peter Murphy made one change to the starting eleven, with Kyle Doherty coming in and Josh Walker dropping to the bench.
Queens started on the front foot and within five minutes a long ball forward was chased down by Kieran McKechnie but after taking time to control it he shot low and wide.
The visitors then started to take more control of the game and a short free kick by Declan Glass out to Ryan Harrington was blocked for a corner by Benji Luissint. As the ball was played to the back post former Queens favourite, Michael Doyle attacked the ball but collided heavily with the post, thankfully it wasn?t as serious as it looked, and he was able to continue.
A short time later, Connor Scully got the break of the ball ahead of Jack Brydon, but the solid defender got back to cut out the danger.
With half an hour gone, Scully protesting looking for handball in the box before Glass won a free kick, 25-yards out. He got up to take the set piece himself but fired the ball wide.
Cove were certainly enjoying more of the ball and Ross Stewart had to race out to halt Adam Emslie, as he knocked it out, Oscar MacIntyre got caught out and Glass had a chance from close range but as he tried to place the ball into the net, Matty Douglas was on hand to clear it off the line.
The Gaffer made a change to the formation and switched Mickey Hewitt as they looked to deal with Cove and it worked as their chances became less until the final minute of the first half when Douglas again cleared from Scully.
HALF TIME: Queens 0 Cove Rangers 0
As Queens looked to get more of a grip on the game, Harry Cochrane came off the bench at half time. But it was still Paul Hartley?s men who had the better of the chances in the early stages, as the ball was played in, Grady McGrath challenged but Brydon got there ahead of him to head the ball safely into the hands of Stewart.
At the other end Hewitt crossed into the danger area where Kai Kennedy got on the end of it, his header didn?t have enough power to trouble Nicholas Surman.
McGrath was back in on goal but this time, Stewart did well to block with his feet.
The visitors did open the scoring just after the hour mark when Queens failed to deal with a ball in from Scully and Emslie forced the ball past Stewart.
The home side had to step it up and McKechnie, Kennedy and Luissint were all involved in a good move, before Kennedy?s somehow couldn?t find the net but did earn a corner. As he delivered the ball into the box, Douglas headed back into Hewitt, but his header was over.
Walker came off the bench and made an instant impact, his determined play caused panic in the Cove defence and as they stabbed it clear the ball fell to McKechnie who finished from close range to pull Queens level.
And two minutes later Walker was again involved as he combined with Luissint to set up a chance for Hewitt who finished well to turn the game around.
They did survive a scare in the 90th minute when Glass curled a shot towards the top corner, it was swerving and had Stewart beaten but it crashed off the crossbar.
