Cove Rangers were the guests for our final home game of the season. Jack Brydon suffered a recurrence of his foot problem which saw him sit this one out and replaced by Jordan Houston. From the starting line up at Stirling, Kyle Doherty was the other player to drop out as he swapped places with Lee Connelly.
Queens were fired up for it from the start and within the opening five minutes, Lewis Gibson burst down the wing to get the ball across, but Nicholas Surman managed to get his fingertips on it to turn it out for a corner.
As Queens continued to push, Alex Ferguson delivered a great cross from the right this time, Gavin Reilly got on the end of it, but his header was off target. Six minutes later, Josh Todd hit a shot towards goal from the edge of the box only for it to come off the back of Paul McGowan.
The home side were well on top but hadnt made it count and midway through the half the visitors had their first attempt at goal, McGowans shot was heading for the top corner, but Harry Stone made a great one handed save to keep it out.
It was a brief flurry from Cove, as Queens hit back, Connelly danced over the ball to lay it off for Todd, but his shot was straight at the keeper.
Three minutes later, Reilly provided a cross into the box, looking for Connelly but before he could get to it Will Gillingham cleared.
They were finally rewarded for their work rate when they opened the scoring on the half hour mark. As the ball came in from the left, Jordan Houston was on hand to head home from close range.
Cove were having a torrid time and as Gibbo got the ball into the danger area, Connelly turned to hit a snapshot effort, he got it on target, but it was deflected for a corner.
As they looked to add to the tally, Connelly played it in for Reilly, but he couldnt connect.
A second goal did come five minutes before the break when Connelly sold the defence a dummy inside the box but was brought down for a penalty. He got up to take it himself and kept the ball low to place it into the bottom corner to the keepers left-hand side.
Some great play by Ferguson on the right set up the last chance of the first half, but Gibson somehow scooped the ball over when he looked odds on to score.
HALF TIME: Queens 2 Cove 0
Queens didnt take their foot off the pedal and four minutes after the restart, Gibson did well to cut the ball across, but Jacob Jones cleared. As Gibbo played in the corner, the ball found its way to Connelly, the striker tried to chip it over the keeper, but his right foot effort was just the wrong side of the crossbar.
Connelly was a real thorn in the side of Coves defence and after he nutmegged Michael Doyle, he managed to get a shot on target, but Surman collected. A minute later the keeper again saved as he stopped Connellys left foot volley.
On the hour mark, Connelly went down at the feet of the keeper as he looked to shoot but the referee wasnt up for giving a second spot kick.
It was the performance that we had all been looking for and as Queens continued to cause problems for Paul Hartleys side, Ferguson got on the end of a pass, but his low shot was saved but Surman.
With fifteen minutes to go, substitute, Kieran McKechnie crossed from the right and as Connelly caught it on the volley the ball flew just wide of the post.
Seven minutes from time, Doherty cut inside from the left to play the ball agonisingly across the face of goal, there were no takers, but he did win a corner. As the ball was delivered into the box by Gibson, Doherty got his head on the end of it, but the ball came back off the inside of the post.
