Update From The Board

With the centenary season well under way, we thought we would update you on some of the goings on at Palmerston.

Firstly, the Christmas Fayre was a tremendous success, with hundreds of people there for the different stalls and coaching with the first team. The youngsters loved the interaction with the players and they were brilliant with tips and skills for all those taking part. Well done to Danny Armstrong for orchestrating a day to that scale.

The Centenary goods continue to be available with the watches and whisky going down a storm. Iain McCartney has sold out of hardback books but the softback edition continues to be available through the club shop.

We are still working on a game and more details will follow on this,  but it will be in 2019. Danny is also working on a Centenary golf day, whereby teams of three will be teamed up with a present/former player for a day of fun and friendly competition.

The Arena continues to be busy and we are in discussions with another sizeable business to move in. It provides the club with much needed funds as we continue to compete with clubs who have larger resources than us. The dialogue with national companies continues but at this time with both local and national economic uncertainty with Brexit/second referendums any decision's on commerce are moving slower than we would like. The BBC though have now settled in and are delighted with their premises.

We are looking to upgrade KGV in the near future although the pitch may be slightly longer than we hoped. The plans are to upgrade the gym and pitch creating a mini stadium where all games apart from first team are held there.

You will see that the Glasgow Street floodlights are now undergoing refurbishment to upgrade them to the Terregles Street standard which look magnificent.

I'm sure everyone who has been at Palmerston this season will agree, there has been many entertaining games and plenty of goals, we just need to draw more people through the gates. The young lads who have gathered at the pole at the Glasgow Street terracing have been brilliant in creating an atmosphere, hopefully more will be encouraged to come and join them.

The SLO's brought up an idea about a Centenary Fighting Fund and it would be similar to what other clubs in Scotland have done, eg: Dunfermline, Hearts, Ayr United etc, this would help us continue to compete at this level and maybe higher.  It would consist of supporters paying a monthly direct debit to a bank account with full transparency and the funds would go into the manager's budget. Different monthly cash and football orientated prizes would also be available to reward those taking part, more details will follow on this soon.

You will have seen from an earlier post that we are having a Centenary/Hall of Fame Dinner on Saturday 23rd March at the Cairndale Hotel. I'm sure you all agree that the inductees are fully deserving of the accolade and we look forward to seeing who is voted in as the 5th member of Class 2019. We are lucky enough to have Stephen Jardine, journalist and presenter  ("he's one of our own") compering the night along with George McNeil the acclaimed after dinner speaker. I'm sure everyone is looking forward to another tremendous night as the HOF's have been in the past.

We have opened up dialogue with a group of supporters about applying for a Heritage Lottery Fund to coincide with our Centenary and this would be incorporated into the Terregles Street end. The history of Queen of the South will be incorporated into the walls along with Jo McSkimming's murals.

The museum will also carry a display on Queens Centenary next year.

Thanks again to all fans, sponsors, volunteers and staff for their continued support.

Have a great Christmas.

Up the South !
