Match Preview v FC Edinburgh - 17th Sept 22

Tomorrow we welcome FC Edinburgh to Palmerston for the first time. The league game is the first of our double header against them this week as we host them again on Thursday evening in the SPFL Trust Trophy.

We have played them twice before when they were Edinburgh City, initially in November 2012 at Meadowbank Stadium when Nicky Clark and Gavin Reilly scored in our Scottish Cup 3rd round tie and our last meeting in 2018 when we travelled to their temporary home, Ainslie Park in the group stages of the league cup. We came away with a 4-0 victory that day when Lyndon Dykes opened the scoring with the other goals coming from Josh Todd and a Stephen Dobbie who scored a double.

Looking ahead to this weekend, Manager Wullie Gibson said “With our game being off last week we looked at various options and decided to spend the day together as a team to give us a chance to regroup. Sometimes when results aren’t going well it’s an important thing to do.

This weekend we have the first of back-to-back games against FC Edinburgh, it’s never ideal playing the same team close together but it is what it is, and we just need to take it one at a time and it’s a massive home game for us. They’re newly promoted, and people might see it as them making up the numbers, but they are up their challenging and we are under no illusions. They’ve made a great start to the season and sit second in the table so will come with confidence.

Our poor run of results at Palmerston continued in our last game when we were way off it against Dunfermline. Our home record has been an issue for a few seasons now so has to be a concern and something we hope to address sooner rather than later. We will go in with the right frame of mind and put previous results behind us and try to kick on. We will as always be prepared and go out looking to win the game and pick up three points. So please get behind the boys.

Thanks again for your support”.

The only way to buy tickets in advance will be online.

Please note that tickets are not transferable or refundable.

Car parking will be available to all spectators within the Queen of the South Arena car park. It is suggested that buses/minibuses drop off their passengers in Terregles St/King Street and thereafter park on College Mains road just off the roundabout with the A76 on the town bypass (adjacent to Curry’s/PC World, as the other side at Aldi is the access road to the ambulance depot and is extremely busy). Pick up should be the same location as drop off. Supporters’ buses including minibuses will not be allowed to park in the Arena car park.

As far as we are aware there are no ongoing roadworks currently around Dumfries that may affect travel times to Palmerston Park. Fans should check the Traffic Scotland website at http://trafficscotland.org/index.aspx for confirmation of any delays.

The catering outlets within the supporter’s areas of the ground will also be open for use. And the bar under the Alpha Solway stand will be open to both sets of supporters’ pre-match.

QOS have adopted a robust and thorough search policy for spectators entering the ground to ensure that ground rules and regulations are strictly adhered to, especially in relation to pyrotechnic devices and controlled containers. We would like to remind supporters that letting off smoke devices is a criminal offence, and anyone found doing so will be referred to Police Scotland which may result in a custodial sentence. Not only is it against the law, but it is also extremely dangerous and a health hazard to other spectators. All bags will be searched and spectators presenting themselves for entry may also be subject to search. Spectators who refuse to be searched by stewards will be denied entry to the ground.

Palmerston Park is a non-smoking venue, this includes e cigarettes and other such devices. Stewards are empowered to eject spectators who disobey these rules. No persons will be admitted to the ground who are deemed to be under the influence of alcohol.

Supporters should note that due to a UEFA ruling we are no longer providing a stream of matches this season.

The club shop located in the Arena will be open from 1300 until kick off where you can purchase our club merchandise.

Our new Community Fridge located in the car park next to the Alpha Solway stand will be open tomorrow as some of the volunteers host an open day from 2pm. They will be on hand for you to pop in to ask questions, have a look around, have a chat, make donations or indeed pick up something for your tea.

Tomorrow’s match kicks off at 3 pm. Supporters should note that as a mark of respect to the late Queen Elizabeth we will be holding a one minutes silence ahead of kick off. Players and officials will also wear black armbands.
