Reserve Game

Last night the reserves faced Threave Rovers in a friendly at Palmerston. The game was tightly contested in the first half with Threave taking the lead within the first 3 minutes. Former Queens player Connor Potts placing the ball in the path of another former Queens youth Ross Thomson to take the lead from a corner. Queens then drew level through Ross Irving, as Ben Johnstone clipped a nicely weighted ball in behind the Threave defense, in which Ross struck from just inside the 18 yard box on the half volley. Queens dominated the ball in spells but slack passing and a high pressing Threave asked questions of the Queens back three without really much for Pietsch in goal to deal with. Queens then went infront this from another Irving goal after a fine strike from Michael Ruth hit the post and rebounded in the path of Irving for a tap in. Just before half-time Ruth added his first and Queens' third, a strike from the edge of the box finding the bottom corner.

As expected Threave came out the second half a lot more on the front foot and a ball through the Queens defense was finished calmy by Ryan Coates who was introduced at halftime. The game then went through a dull 15/20 minute period in which neither side really created much. In to the last 15 minutes Queens proved their clinical nature with 3 goals which saw Irving taking his tally to 4 one from a cut back and one from a curling finish from outside the box and trialist finished the other with a neat finish from just inside the box. The game finished 6-2, we would like to thank Threave for the game and wish them well for the rest of the season.
