Partick Game

Today we kick off our league campaign with a trip to Firhill, as we face newly promoted Partick Thistle. A side not too unfamiliar with ourselves with former players Darren Brownlie, Connor Murray, Kevin Holt and manager Ian McCall.

Both sides won 2 of their 4 Premier Sports cup games also losing 2, both teams return to competitive action following a similar pattern. Partick scoring 6 with Queens scoring 9 in their opening 4 competitive games. Queens as we know in our last performance beat an Airdrie side 4-1 with some fantastic football and a perfect hattrick from Ally Roy saw him named as the player of the round., sending Queens into this league opener in fine form and full of confidence. With two new additions this week in Josh Debayo and Udoka Chima Queens bolster their defensive line in time for the league opener.

The last time these sides met in the league was in March 2020 just before the COVID-19 pandemic took toll. This resulted in a 0-0 draw up at Firhill. Since then, we met in the League cup last season which again finished 0-0 despite Partick having 10 men for 55 minutes, they managed to win the game on penalties 3-2 at Palmerston. Going on the form of both teams in their first 4 matches in the Premier sports cup we are not predicting a 0-0 this time with 15 goals scored between the sides.

Looking ahead to the new season and the game Manager Allan Johnston said-

‘I think we have to aim for where we where last year and challenge for that top 4, that’s where we want to be. I am happy with the players we have got in so far and if we can manage to get a little bit more quality in as we are trying to do over the coming weeks then I think we will have a strong squad to go and compete. It is going to be a difficult week you just need to look at the start to the league campaign we are going to have teams like Thistle who are spending big, to try and obviously get promoted to the Premier League teams like Kilmarnock as well and Hamilton who obviously have been in the premier league and will still have the budgets to compete as well. We know it’s going to be tough, its going to be a lot tougher than last year but we are more than happy with the players we have recruited so far.’ (Allan Johnston speaking about the start of the league campaign 19/07/2021.)

Although no away fans are permitted to attend the game in person due to the restricted number of fans allowed at Firhill, the streaming is available for £12 and can be found at PTFC TV – Partick Thistle FC: Live Stream Shop

We wish all players, staff and volunteers who are involved today the best of luck and hope we can bring 3 pointsback down the road.
