Match Preview - Berwick 2nd September

Its a break from the league this weekend as we travel to Berwick in the 2nd round of the IRNBRU cup.

The manager gave his thoughts on last weekends win over Falkirk and Saturdays match :

"Our win away at Falkirk was probably the highlight of my Queen of the South managerial career so far.

The performance by the whole team was exceptional and although I have been in football long enough to know that we won't play like that every week, we have now shown a standard that we must try and reach every week. We currently sit second in the table and the boys deserve to be there for the hard work and effort that they have given since pre-season but It's still early days and we won't get carried away although I am happy with what we have shown so far this season.

This week we head to Berwick Rangers in the Irn Bru Cup. We will be favourites going into the game, but that goes for nothing when it comes to the cup as anything can happen and the "underdogs" always play with a point to prove. Berwick will also have a new manager in place and that will give them a lift. Both teams will want to progress as far as they can in the competition so it will be a competitive game and one that we don't want to slip up in.

I said ahead of our game against Airdrie in the previous round that we want to go one better than last season and reach the final and that hasn't changed.

I maybe forced into a couple of changes this weekend to the starting team as we are carrying a few niggles and I don't want to take any unnecessary risks with any of the players. However, we will not be underestimating Berwick in any way as we look to maintain the momentum we have built up in recent weeks. One player who will be missing is Jason Kerr, who is away with Scotland Under 21's. It's his first International call up, one he deserves and we wish him well and hope that he is involved in the match. "
