20's Edged Out By Kilmarnock

The u20's side were knocked out of the Scottish Youth Cup at Kilmarnock yesterday following a 3-2 defeat after extra time. In a busy period for games it was unfortunately necessary to travel to play the Premier League side on Wednesday despite the boys having played less than 48 hours earlier at Queen's Park in the Development League (they won that won 2-1 and remain top of Development League West). In the end the legs seriously tired in the extra half hour and that was undoubtedly a factor in the loss.

The young team were so very unfortunate not to win in normal time though. They had twice struck the cross bar before Kilmarnock took the lead through Scott McLean just before the interval. Midway through the second half, Connor Murray struck a rebound from his own free kick into the net on the half volley from 25 yards for an equaliser and the same player so nearly snatched it at the death, striking the bar with a great effort. Into extra time it went though and Queens took the lead when Owen Moxon turned and fired into the net in the opening minute. However, with legs starting to get heavy the premier side scored a fortunate equaliser when Oliver McDonald diverted a header into the goal. A minute into the second period Innes Cameron seized on a loose ball in the box to fire in what proved to be the winner.
