Presenting ABC & The Stars from the Commitments

ABC won’t let the Dumfries public down! After the unfortunate cancellation of The Concert at Queens, ABC and The Stars from the Commitments have pledged to still make the journey to Dumfries on Saturday 4th June 2016.

Easterbrook Hall will host an intimate evening concert which will enjoy a performance from Martin Fry and his band ABC who were one of the most popular new wave bands of the early 80's. ABC were said to have built upon the detached, synthesized R&B pop of David Bowie and Roxy Music, adding a self-conscious sense of theatrics and style. Under the direction of vocalist Martin Fry, the group scored several catchy, synth driven dance-pop hits in the early '80s, including "Poison Arrow," "Look of Love," and "Be Near Me."

ABC’s new single and album is currently all over national radio and the BBC. ‘The Lexicon Of Love II’ is being released on the 27th May.

The evening will also feature The Stars From The Commitments, a gritty Dublin based nine piece soul band who feature some original cast members from the popular movie The Commitments. Following it's release in 1991 it has since been voted as the best Irish film of all time. Meanwhile the former cast members and other musicians have toured the world delivering a powerhouse soul set which has even impressed the likes of former American president George Bush. Event attendees can expect to hear classic tracks like Mustang Sally, Take Me To The River and Nowhere To Run.

Club Chairman Billy Hewitson said “Although we were disappointed to have to cancel The Concert at Queens we are grateful that ABC and The Stars from the Commitments have been honourable and agreed to still come and play in Dumfries. We know people have planned their weekend around the event and hope they support this evening which is sure to be a great night”

Managing Director of the Crichton Trust John McGee said “We are delighted to continue to support Queen of the South and the fantastic work they do to at the club to promote the region, hosting this event in June is a privilege. All staff here at Easterbrook are committed to do all we can to make sure we all have a great night.”
